A common area of need for our patients is in low back pain treatment. This is of course a huge area for exploration in any patient diagnosis. As usual though, you don’t have to be an athlete to experience the discomfort and require low back pain treatment. Frequent air travel or driving can be a factor, and having one of the world’s most busy airports right here in metro Atlanta means lots of road warriors with back pain. At the same time, a sedentary lifestyle can also be a culprit.
One Possibility In Low Back Pain Treatment
The quadricep group has been a hot topic lately for both generalized back pain and core stability dysfunction. We believe that the core stability compensation muscle group most utilized for those who sit and stand for a living are the quadricep group.
You’d be surprised – we often find that something as simple as foam rolling the quads can produce good movement and good feedback for the spine, and more specifically, the lumbar spine. Why? This allows for the pelvis to relax and rock into a posterior moment and allow for less pressure on the lowest lumbar spinal bones.
Sometimes the lumbar spine can show signs of integral dysfunction within the pelvic floor and the core stability systems. Simply relax the quads and the pain may begin to relax. In general terms, we’ve found that the foam rolling of the quads should happen following workouts or at the end of the day. And, we’ve found that it should be completed by staying on a tender spot for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
